In mid November, Alstom delivered to Zürich the 70th Flexity 2 tram, thereby completing the full first series that was originally ordered in March 2017. The first Flexity 2arrived in Zürich in November 2019 and after completing the trial and authorisation process, entered revenue service in October 2020.

In Switzerland's largest city, these single-ended, 43 m long LRVs are replacing the older Tram 2000 type, which were produced in different series from 1976 to 1992 and are either being gifted to the Ukrainian city Vinnytsia or being scrapped. In December 2020, Zürich's municipal operator VBZ took advantage of a first contract option and ordered a second batch of 40 Flexity 2, which are being produced in Wien, Austria. Another add-on option was exercised in May 2024 with the purchase of 12 more.

That leaves Zürich with 18 more Flexity 2 that could be acquired as part of the original framework agreement. This option is valid until December 2027. The 52 Flexity 2 currently on order as part of the contract options are due for delivery by spring 2028. Since their introduction to regular service, all Flexity combined have already accrued more than 8 million route km in Zürich.
