The first passengers should be able to climb on aboard in late November and seven trams will provide service on the new line to Wolfisheim when this opens in December. Another 12 will arrive in 2026. 27 of the new four-section 45m air-conditioned cars will replace the last of the British-built Eurotrams dating from 1999-2000. The new stock is 2.4m wide a features rotating bogies under the driving cabs. They are 20% more energy efficient than the previous batch thanks to LED lighting and are built to be 95% recyclable. A key new feature is enlarged glass surfacesbthat improve passengers’ perception of safety and comfort. The new trams are designed to be certified under BOStrab regulations giving them the ability to cross the Rhein on line D to Kohl.

CTS operates six tram lines covering 49.1km with 94 trams. The original line dates from 1994. The city had a first-generation tramway from 1878 until 1960.
