The tramway revival in Paris (Île-de-France) started with the opening of line T1 between Bobigny-Pablo Picasso and La Courneuve-8 May 1945 on 6 July 1992 (9.1km) Rolling stock was 19 Alstom TFS2 partly low-floor trams to the design developed first for Grenoble in 1987. 16 more were delivered for line T2, but as the T1 was extended (reaching 17km today) these were transferred to the T1 as well. Today the peak vehicle requirement is 32 of the 35 cars.
Now a new generation of 100% low-floor trams is being delivered for line T1 and with increasing patronage and further extensions planned 3t Alstom Citadis XO5 (RATP designation TW20) were ordered in 201. An option for 28 more was taken up in 2024 at a cost of EUR 3.1M per tram, bringing the future fleet to 65 by 2029 (operation as coupled sets is expected to be the norm). The first six were delivered to the Villetaneuse depot of line T8, where they will be tested and initial driver training take place from late October. The design is 32m long and 2.4m wide with accommodation for 200 passengers (a 15% increase in capacity compared to the TFS2). They are air-conditioned and the first could be carrying passengers on T1 with the 10 December timetable change.
