Belgrade Metro and Train has awarded Alstom an EUR 915M turnkey contract to equip metro line 1, now under detailed planning between Makisko Polje and Karaburma via Tag Republic in the city centre of the Serbian capital. The 15km line (13km underground) will be fully automated with Alstom supplying signalling, communications, power supply, track, platform screen doors, depot equipment and 32 three-car Metropolis trains.
Full automation will use Urbalis CBTC to permit 90-second headways. The project is supported by financial assistance from the French government. The basic infrastructure is being built by Power China under a EUR 720M contract. Both contracts were selected in direct deals, without public tenders. Work will start this spring with completion planned for 2030
