The first 1.8km of the link between the two tramway systems along Diagonal was opened on 10 November for line T4 using Alstom’s surface inductive charging system (APS). The work cost EUR 100M.

It is expected that 24 000 passengers/day will be carried on this section between Glòries and Verdaguer with three new stops. An inauguration party was postponed in solidarity with those affected by the floods in Valencia. The construction of the new line included a major reconstruction of Avenida Diagonal, one of the city’s major traffic arteries. Pavements were widened and a cycle lane improved, while extra green planting was made. Traffic lights have been adjusted at 27 intersections to afford tram priority.

Trambaix and Trambesòs separate tram systems have been in operation for 20 years and the link between the two will be completed when Verdaguer–Plaza Francesca Macia is opened in 2028. It should take 2000 car trips/day off the road.
