The Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation, operators of the light rail research and development centre in Dudley, West Midlands, UK, entered into administration on 1 July after it failed to achieve core funding to keep its activities solvent. A net working capital shortfall of £1.4M has been identified. Turnover in 2024 was £988 000. RSM UK Restructuring Advisory have been appointed administrators, and bids have been invited for the purchase of the business' goodwill and physical assets. These may include the Very Light Rail prototype vehicle, recently demonstrated in Coventry, but returned to Dudley. Some £32M has been invested in BCIMO since it was created as a not-for-profit Research and Technology Organisation in 2019, with funding from the ERDF, Black Country Enterprise Partnership, West Midlands Combined Authority and Coventry City Council, and a loan from Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council.
