The Dudley base of the Black Country Innovative Manufacturing Organisation (next to Dudley Zoo) is to hold an open day on 17 May when there will be a chance to ride the 2.2km test track where the Very Light Rail vehicle destined for Coventry has been developed and tested. There will be presentations, model railway layouts, stalls and a chance to sample the Transport Systems Simulator. The engineering facility, which has been used to refurbish some of the West Midlands Metro CAF trams will be open. Adult admission is £13.55 with a family ticket for £39.33. The centre will be open 10.00 to 16.00 with profits going to local and railway-based charities, and the opening ceremony featuring Pete Waterman. The test track is on the former South Staffordshire Railway freight line and includes the 870m Dudley Tunnel.
