After the decision that it would not be possible to operate heritage trams during the 2026 Illuminations, Blackpool Transport has surprised enthusiasts by repainting Bombardier Flexity 012 in the traditional green and cream livery that was used until the delivery of the new flee in 2010-2012. 012 had previously advertised the Pleasure Beach, but with that contract ending it was decided to transform the tram into heritage colours.

Lea Harrison, Blackpool Transport’s Managing Director, said, ‘While we are on track to have some static displays ready for next month’s Lightpool Festival, in the meantime we want to ensure our heritage plans remain in the public eye. Our engineers and volunteers are doing all they can to restore some of our best-loved trams to modern day operating standards, this nostalgic makeover aims to remind everyone of their efforts behind the scenes. We are delighted to be able to use one of our younger trams to showcase our commitment to a safe and sustainable future for our wider heritage operations’.
