A tram at a stop in Nantes

The anniversary of Blackpool’s tramway branch from Talbot Square to North Station on 12 June saw the release of figures that showed over 250 000 passengers were carried to and from the stop in 12 months. Service is now provided every 10 minutes, north to Fleetwood and south to Starr Gate. Jane Cole, Managing Director of Blackpool Transport said, ‘Ideally located for staff working at the new Department for Work & Pensions office at Fylde View, the North Station stop will become increasingly important as the next phase of the £350M Talbot Gateway project takes shape. This includes new offices for the Ministry of Defence that will further boost the revival of this part of town, that is fast becoming a vibrant hub of commercial and retail activity. At the heart of thew transformation, the new tram stop has also improved connections to the national rail network, making it easier than ever for visitors to make the most of the town’s many sights and attractions. Recent timetable changes have further enhanced the popularity of the stop as it approached its first birthday, and now the summer season has arrived it looks set to become one the the busiest on the tramway network’.

The £23M tramway extension was funded by Blackpool Council, that received £16.4M from the Lancashire Enterprise Partnership Growth Deal.
