A tram at a stop in Nantes

A framework contract was signed in early June that will see up to 23 CAF Urbos 100% low-floor trams delivered to New Taipei for the planned Xidong (5.78km elevated) and Keeling (19.1km) lines. The EUR 200M contract also includes spare parts, depot equipment and a driving simulator. The nine-section aluminium-bodied 55m trams will each accommodate up to 615 passengers. The new lines, the first of which will open in 2032, will feed the city’s metro system. New Taipei is a city adjacent to the capital city Taipei and is home to four million residents.

CAF has previously supplied trams to Taiwan to the Kaohsiung city loop tramway in 2016. Taipei already has two tram lines: Danhai light rail and Ankeng light rail.
