The tendering process for the contract to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the 18.8km north–south metro in Dublin, from Swords to Charlemont via the airport and O’Connell Street has been started by Transport Infrastructure Ireland.
The contract will include the trains, signalling for GoA4 automatic operation, depot and workshop, P+R facility, control centre, track work, electrification, power and communication systems, mechanical and electrical systems and station fit-out (there will be separate contracts for tunnelling). The 32-year contract period will cover seven years for completion of works and 25 years of operation and maintenance. A PPP contract is envisaged to spread the cost, estimated at EUR 7.3bn. The next stage will be pre-qualification to assess bidders’ capability, experience and capacity to deliver.
National Transport Authority CEO Anne Shaw said, ‘through this procurement we welcome ambitious and experienced partners to be part of a once in a generation transport project and to play a vital long-term role in a system that will reshape mobility across Dublin and beyond’. The line is expected to carry up to 50M passengers/year and potentially open in 2035, providing a three-minute service headway.
