Transport Scotland and Network Rail have launched a high-end technical feasibility study towards the operation of tram-trains on the South Suburban line in the Scottish capital. The line last carried passenger services in 1962.
The line would link to the street-based tramway at Murrayfield and Cameron Toll to provide service into the city centre from Gorgie, Morningside and Fort Kinnaird, eventually extending to Portobello. Rob Falcon, Chair of Tram Trains for Edinburgh, said ‘We welcome this great news of tram-trains for Edinburgh that will benefit thousands of people across the city’.
