Edinburgh trams carried 12M passengers in 2024, a record figure. The year included its busiest day, in June, when 74 000 trips were recorded. The figures were boosted by people heading to the Taylor Swift concerts at Murrayfield Stadium. The numbers were also boosted by the opening of the Newhaven extension in 2023. The 2024 figures represent an increase of 7.3M on 2022, when the post-COVID recovery began.

Over the past year the company has also won the accolade of Most Improved System at the Global Light Rail Awards, and Tram Operator of the Year at the National Transport Awards.

Lea Harrison, Edinburgh Trams Managing Director, said 'This sustained growth and award success reflects the commitment of the entire Edinburgh Trams team to delivering the very best service for customers, whether they are visiting the city to enjoy its many sights and attractions or rely on us every day for work or leisure. As the network continues to go from strength to strength, we will focus our efforts on further enhancing the customer experience’.

Edinburgh Trams operates the 11.5-mile (18.5km) line between Newhaven and Edinburgh Airport via the city centre, with a tram every 7 minutes, using 27 CAF Urbos 42.8m trams.
