EIB loan finances new trams for Odesa

The European Investment Bank has agreed a 10.6M loan to the Ukrainian city of Odesa (Odessa) to finance the purchase of eight more Tatra-Yug K1T low-floor trams. This is part of EUR 17.25M of EU-baked funding for public transport in Ukraine under the Ukraine Solidarity Urgent Response Package. In addition to the Odesa trams, there will be money for new buses and trolleybuses in Kyiv, Mykolaiv and Ivan-Franvisk. The initiative, supported by EU tehnical assistance, is part of a larger EUR 200M Ukraine Urban Public Transport Project aimed at aligning the country’s transport systems with EU standards, while aiding recovery and resilience during the war with Russia.
Tatra-Jug is a Ukrainian tram manufacturer founded in 1993 to assemble Tatra T6 trams under licence. The K1T is a 100% low-floorthree-se4ction 32m articulated tram introduced in 2021 and running in Kyiv and Odesa. each tram can carry 260 passengers, 59 seated. 13 of these trams are already operating in the Black Sea port city.
