In a post-consultation report on the planned LUAS light rail published by Transport Infrastructure Irelandforn the Irish city of Cork, 85% of respondents backed the proposals. The 18km EUR 2.5bn east–west line would run from Mahon Point via Docklands, Kent railway station and the city centre to the university and Ballicollig West. 61% of comments received related to route details proposed in Bishopstown with local traffic management requiring detailed consideration. There was strong interest in integration with heavy rail and other transport modes, and calls for extensions of the route to be safeguarded. The project will now move to the preliminary design stage in preparation for the Railway Order planning process.
