The Brazlian city of Salvador in Bahiastatee is building three-line standard-gauge 36.4km tramway to replace and expand the run-down suburban train service dating from the 1940s. The first section of line will link São Joã Island to Calçada (16.6km). Originally a monorail was planned, but this was cancelled in 2023 for technical and financial reasons. For rolling stock Salvador is taking over 40 CAF Urbos seven-section 44m low-floor trams originally built in 2014-2015 for the failed tramway project in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso state, at a cost of BRR 750M.

These trams are being refurbished at the CAF Brazilian factory at Hortolândia, São Paulo, and the first was ready to be delivered in late September. It carries fleet number 3050 and a multi-coloured livery that will be a one-off in the Salvador fleet.
