First Siemens Avenio reaches København

The Danish capital is building a 28km tramline through its western suburbs from Lundtofte in the north to Ishøj in the south via Lyngby, Harlem and Glostrup.
Financing for the project was agreed by the parliament in 2016 and is shared between the city (54%) and eight smaller municipalities. Work is in progress with passenger service planned for 2025.
In 2021 an order was placed with a consortium formed by Siemens and Aarsleff Rail for 29 five-section 36.9m Avenio low-floor double-ended trams. Late on 23 August the first tram arrived by road at the Glostrup depot and was assembled in readiness for testing to start.
The trams are being built in the new Siemens plant at Kragujevac in Serbia and taken to the testing centre at Wegberg-Wildenrath in Germany before their final 800km delivery journey to København.
The trams are 2.65m wide, weigh 48.6t and carry 260 passengers (64 seated). They are expected to carry 14.7M passengers/year by 2030. The delivery schedule foresees a tram arriving every three weeks.
