The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has made nearly USD10.5 million in competitive grant funds available for agencies to plan transit-adjacent development.

This pilot plan supports local planning and investment near transit hubs to promote sustainable communities with an especial focus on those that include affordable housing provision.

'Many Americans spend almost half of their monthly budget on housing and transportation costs - so we're taking steps to bring those costs down,' said U.S Department of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg.

Past award recipients have included Valley Metro and the Tempe Streetcar. The money was used to help them to create a system that caters for the pedestrian as well as re-vitalising the area around the system's area of operation.
