The Swedish port city of Göteborg (Gothenburg) has started carrying passengers on its new 45m Superspårvagnen(Supertrams), with no less than 60 to enter service by summer 2027. Ordered from Alstom/Kiepe in September 2021, the M34 class will strengthen the city’s public transport offer on the busiest lines. Single-ended five-section 12-axle trams 602/3 carried passengers on line 11 from 19 January; they are built at the former Bombardier factory in Bautzen, Germany with a complete Kiepe system for drive and electrics. The first arrived in Göteborg in August 2024. The 67t tram is powered by 8 x 120kW motors. Essentially an extended version of the 40 33m M33 trams delivered in 2020-23, each can carry up to 319 passengers (111 seated). They are the longest trams ever to operate in Göteborg and cost EUR 3.1M each.
