The German city of Halle ordered 56 Stadler 100% low floor double-ended TINA trams in August 2022, 17 of the 45.4m XL version and 39 pf the MGT-M 30.4m variant. Delivery started in December 2024. On 2 September the first of the 45m trams was put in to passenger service on line 3 between Trotha and Beesen. This was the start of a three-month trial that will also involve lines 1 and 2. TINA stands for Totally Integrated Low-Floor Drive and is air-conditioned for passenger comfort. The new trams will replace the MGT6D fleet dating from 1996-2001.
Mayor Dr Alexander Vogt said, 'I am delighted that Europe's most modern tram is now in regular service. The aesthetic design will enhance the cityscape. With TINA an exciting new chapter begins for our passengers and local transport in Halle (Saale). We are not only bringing more comfort, greater safety and greater climate protection to the tramway, but are also setting new standards that will make our city an even more liveable place'. The EUR 168M cost of the new fleet is supported by a 60% grant from the city and state.
Halle (population 242 000) has the largest tramway network in Sachsen-Anhalt, 87.6km,. The first metre-gauge horse tram ran in 1882 and the first electric tram inn 1891. Today about 100 trams are running on 12 lines.
