Blackpool Transport, the municipal operator of trams and buses in the British seaside resort, has announced the appointment of Lea Harrison as its new Managing Director. He takes over from Jane Cole OBE, who is retiring after 12 years at the helm of the company. Mr Harrison joins from Edinburgh Trams, where he has been Managing Director for 10 years, part of a career that first saw him employed as one of Manchester Metrolink’s first tram drivers in 1991. He has also been head of service delivery at Tramlink Nottingham.
Mr Harrison will take up his role on 1 March, working alongside Ms Cole for a short period. Cllr John Boughton, Chair of Blackpool Transport Services Ltd, said, ‘I am delighted that somebody with Lea’s experience is so keen to come and work in Blackpool. He will bring a wealth of knowledge about well-connected public transport operations that puts customers first. I would also like to place on record my immense thanks to Jane, who has spearheaded enormous change at BTS over the last decade; she will be missed’.
Lea Harrison. (BTS)
