In the French port city (population 1.9M in the greater Marseille area) 7 January saw the extension of north–south tram line T3 at both ends to add 6.2km of route in total. It now runs from Capitaine Geze in the north to La Gaye in the south. The inauguration ceremony took place at Geze at 11.00 with local politicians, including Martin Vassal, president of the métropole, celebrating completion of the EUR 320M project that took three years to complete. The EU contributed EUR 115M. And a further 7km north should opening 2029 from Geze to La Castellane. A new P+R structure at La Gaye has been delayed by planning issues. The operation of the new extensions was possible thanks to the delivery by CAF of 15 new Urbos 100X 42.5m low-floor trams, each with accommodation for 262 passengers (62 seated). These cost EUR 57M.
