MBTA remove safety restrictions on Blue Line
Posted on 13th May 2024 at 11:29
Critical track work has been completed on the Blue Line and all safety speed restrictions have been lifted - giving passengers a quicker journey since work began in 2023.
While work was underway, parts of the line were diverted through the use of shuttle buses and some evening services were suspended. As well as completing vital track work, other repairs were conducted throughout the system to improve passenger experience such as doors, handrails and safety signage.
'Thank you to our riders and the communities that we serve for your patience and flexibility as we completed critical work to repair and replace track infrastructure across the entire Blue Line. With each diversion, we are fulfilling our commitment to giving our riders the safe and more reliable trip that they deserve.' said MBTA General Manager and CEO Phillip Eng.
The work included replacing 22,500 feet of rail, 9,000 feet of overhead catenary wire, performing station inspections and repairing fencing along the line.
