The first of 30 new Modertrans Moderus Gamma LF 04 AC BD 32m three-section air-conditioned double-ended trams (941-970) was delivered to MPK at Franowo depot in the Polish city of Poznan on 22 January. 85% of the EUR 60M purchase price is funded by the EU. Together with 24 second-hand trams from Bonn, this will enable the remaining high-floor trams in the fleet to be withdrawn from regular service within a year. The new trams feature a 100% low floor and are on four swivelling bogies, two under the centre section and one under each end. each tram can accommodate 240 passengers, 46 seated. Four doors are fitted with ramps that allow wheelchair users to board easily. Large glazing in the cab increases the driver’s field of vision.

The tram will now undergo relevant type approval tests so that passengers can be carried this summer. The remaining high-floor ex-Frankfurt trams will be replaced. The EU is funding 88 new trams in four Polish cities: Bydgoszcz, Kraków, Poznan and Wroclaw. Poznan is hoping to order another 30 trams before long, for delivery in 2029. the operator’s fleet totals 230 standard-gauge trams used on 18 lines on the 87km network.
