Montevideo tramway proposals

A Stadler-led consortium (Three Esses) has come back to the Uruguayan government with a feasibility study for a 25-year concession (three to build, 22 to operate) for a five-line tramway network; a new government was installed on 1 March which has indicated it supports light rail rather than bus rapid transit. The five lines would be: 1, Plaza Independencia–Aeropuerto–El Pinar (32.6km); 2, Plaza Independecia–Intercambiador Belloni­–Aeropuerto (13.8km); 3, Ciudad Vieja–Estación Central; 4, Buceo–Sayago; 5, Estación Central–Las Piedras. The estimated cost is US787M for lines 1 and 2 including 30 low-floor trams.
