In The Bavarian city of München (Munich), 28 February saw the opening of the first stage of a project to create a western orbital tram line (Westtangente). The new line runs along Fürstenriederstrasse from Agnes-Bernauer-Strasse to Ammerseestrasse, permitting the introduction of tram line 14 running every 10 minutes from Gondrellplatz to Pasing Bhf with U-Bahn interchange at Laimer Platz. When completed by the end of 2028 the Westtangente will run 8.3km from Romanplatz in Nymphenburg to U-Bhf Aidenbachstrasse in Obersendling. Total project cost is EUR 4980.1M with 75% coming from the federal government. The ground-breaking ceremony for the new line took place on 12 June 2024. Part of line previously saw trams until 1993, when line 26 was withdrawn as a result of extension of the U-Bahn.
