The Croatian city of Osijek took delivery of the first of 10 low-floor trams bordered from builder Koncar on 7 March. There is a framework agreement that gives an option for 10 more. The TMK 2500 model will be used to replace the 17 Pragoimex trams dating from 2006/7 (modernised then from Tatra trams dating back to 1968-82). Osijek suspended tramway operation for 528 days in 2023-24 while EUR 45M was spent on modernising the infrastructure of the small system. The new 20.8m trams cost EUR 2.3M each. Each can accommodate 135 passengers (44 seated) and are air-conditioned. Delivery should be completed by September.

Speaking at the launch, Mayor Radic said, 'This is only the beginning. In addition to these 10 low-floor trams, we have a framework agreement for 10 more. With the support of the Croatian Government and the Ministry of Transport, we are building a 20-tram fleet that will fully meet the city's public transport needs’. Ivan Pain, Koncar board member, said, 'At KONČAR, we do more than manufacture trains and trams – we actively support the development of energy infrastructure vital for sustainable public transport. Osijek’s investment in modernization sets a strong example for Croatia’s green transition. As a city of youth, education, and vibrant life, Osijek will soon see these trams become an integral part of daily commutes and cherished city experiences’.

The two-line metre-gauger Osijek tramway, which dates back to 1884 (electric from 1926), covers 12km.
