CAF has been awarded a NOK 3.227bn contract for 20 three-car M4000 Inneo metro trains with all axles motored for delivery from 2027; they will be used on the 7.7km Fornebru line 6 due to open in 2029 and to increase capacity on the network.
The new trains will be adapted for local weather conditions, with much of the network in the open air and some steep gradients. There is an option for 90 more trains. All will include provision for automated operation in the future. The trains will be equipped with batteries that will permit the next station to be reached in the event of a power failure.
The 85km Oslo T-bane (metro), built since 1966, operates five lines serving 101 stations with a common underground section through the city centre. About 120-M passengers/year are carried. At the moment 115 Siemens trainsets delivered since 2006 provide service. Oslo is already taking new trams from CAF into its fleet.
