The Italian city of Palermo has awarded a EUR 145M contract for the design and construction of tram extensions E1, E2 South, and F to a consortium led by D’Agostino Costruzioni Generali. The 4·5 km Section F is to link Palermo Centrale main line station on tram Line 1 to Giachery main line station, which is to be part of a future circular railway. Adjacent sections E1 and E2 South totalling 5·8 km are to create a south-to-north corridor, linking the intersections of Croce Rossa and De Gasperi streets to Lanza di Scalera / Settentrionale Sicula.
Palermo’s tramway system opened in December 2015 and covers four lines over 23.3km.
