RATP, operator of the Paris métro network, marked a significant step towards its large scale fleet renewal plans on 14 February, when Alstom delivered the first of 411 MF19 steel-wheel métro trains to Bobigny workshops. EUR 12.5bn is being invested in the new fleet, with delivery likely to run until 2035. The first batch should enter service on line 10 by the end of 2025. After that the re-erquipment programme will move on to lines 7-bis, 3-bis, 13, 12, 8, 3 and 7. They will replace the old MF67, MF77 and Mf88 trains and are a completely new design featuring increased comfort, more space, improved information systems, better accessibility and better security.

When the time comes up to 98% of the material is recyclable. They will use 25% less energy with completely electric braking. The modular design permits four or five-car trains with three lengths (61m, 76.1m and 77.5m) to suit the requirements of eight lines. The prototype carries an experimental livery chose by Île-de-France Mobilités, sponsor of the network. About EUR 3bn is also being invested in the infrastructure of the lines to be served by the new trains. A new maintenance depot will be built at Creteil-Valenton, while that at St-Fargeau will be modernised.
