The New South Wales government is building a 12km (seven-mile) tramline in Sydney suburban city of Parramatta, linking Westmead and Carlingford (with a second phase to include a branch to Sydney Olympic Park. it will be line L4 in the Sydney tramway numbering system. 
 
Announced in February 2017, planning approval came in May 2018 with construction on the AUD 2.4bn project starting in January 2020 after award of a contract to the CPB Downer/Transdev joint venture. 
 
The final phase of test running started on 8 July, with a dummy service in operation 05.00-01.00; passenger service is expected to start in September. 
 
The line will be operated by 13 CAF Urbos 45.5m seven-section low-floor trams.
