The Oregon city’s Type 6 LRVs finally began to enter service on 16 January, more than two years after receipt of the first car. These are the first new MAX LRVs for nearly 10 years. 603+605 ran on the Blue Line on the first day. The Type 6 cars are not able to couple to any of the other types of LRV in TriMet's fleet. All 30 Type 6 cars have been completed, but 11 have been in store at the factory for some months owing to insufficient depot yard space in Portland pending the resumption of withdrawal of original Bombardier/TriMet Type 1 LRVs, which should now resume. 18-19 of the latter remain in service, and some are used seven days a week. Since the autumn, it has been common for the majority of weekday duties on the Green Line to be worked by solo LRVs.

The type 6 is a double-ended three-section LRV on three bogies, 96’11” long and 8’8” wide (29.54 x 2.64m), In comparison to the MAX type 5 LRV, the type 6 features enhanced information displays, LED door indicators, improved temperature controls, predictive maintenance sensors and security camera enhancements.
