The first new tram depot to be built in Praha (Prague) for 74 years was opened on 22 March, built on the site of the former Hloubetin depot that was demolished in 2019 after structural problems made it unsafe. The temporary arrangement of stationing trams outside at the Hostivar workshop has come to an end therefore. The new depot for dirt tram network operator DPP will despatch trams on lines 7, 8, 12, 17 and 31, and will serve as the home base for DPP’s fleet of Skoda 52T trams. The new depot also facilitates the expansion of the Praha tramway network.
The new site also includes a service building for DPP’s overhead line department, modern washing facilities and green spaces. Photovoltaic panels on the roof generate electricity to run the site and heating is supplemented by heat pumps, with ventilation systems using heat recovery. Rainwater is recycled and grey water from showers and sinks is used for toilet flushing. The new depot has a 22-track hall with parking for up to 61 32m trams and a workshop for 12 vehicles The project was fully funded by the city’s municipal budget.
