On 29 August there was a ceremony to ‘lay the first rail' for the 1.9km tramway extension in the Czech capital from Olsanská–Habrová. It is expected to see its first passengers in August 2027 and cost CZK 599.2M. The project will receive funding from European Union Transport 2021-27 programme. The new tram line will run from the junction of Olsanská and Jana Zelivského and run east through the former Zizkov freight yard, with 68 new trees planted on the 450m new street. With six stops the line will be double track until the Vackov stop and then single track on the former railway alignment. This will be the first single-track operation in Prague since 1983 and will feature electronic protection to avoid potential collisions.
