Due to be carrying passengers before the end of the year, the first moving trials have been carried out on future Paris line C1, a cable car linking the metro station at Creteil - Pointe du Lac (line 8) with Valenton, Limeil-Brévannes and Villeneuve-St-Georges (Villa Nova). Work started in September 2022. The 4.5km line has five stations served by 10-passenger cabins (two five-seat benches)( on a 30-second frequency. 11 000 passengers/day are expected. End to end journey time will be 18 minutes. The line is supported on 30 pylons ranging in height from 43 to 55m.
In March 2021 a EUR 1125M contract was signed with the French subsidiary of Austrian group Doppelmayr-Garaventa to build and equip the line, with EUR 26.25M coming from the French state. Operator will be Transdev. Cable cars have been used as public transport links in several cities, mostly in South America, usually to overcome a height difference. Line C1 is different in that the geography is mostly flat, but it does permit crossing of large railway yards.
