The 10-line project in southern Germany, initiated in 2014, involves creating a 197.9km electrified network from nine rail lines with 55 new stations, and additional street running to access city centres. It will include four lines to be operated by Stadler dual-voltage toilet-equipped tram-trains suitable for street-running tramway sections in Reutlingen and Pfullingen electrified at 750V dc and railway operation at 15kV ac:

S2/S12 Reutlingen Süd–Reutlingen Hbf–Gomaringen–Mössingen/Tübingen;

S5 Engstingen–Pfullingen–Reutlingen–Tübingen–Entringen;

S6 Pfullingen–Reutlingen–Bad Urach.

Reutlingen city council gave the go-ahead for street alignments on 16 December. 30 Stadler LRVs are on order for delivery from late 2027, with options for up to 57 more.

Reutlingen Gartenstrasse will see a 4.7km tramway built at a cost of EUR 140.7M with the potential to carry 18 300 passengers/day. Pfullingen Alte Bahnstrasse will see a 4.5km street tramway costing EUR 111.1M with the potential for 16 000 passengers/day. 6.8km of railway to Engstingen will be re-opened after closure since 1969. 10% gradients had seen the use of Riggenbach rack equipment, but the tram-trains will rely on normal adhesion. The new tramway sections should be built in 2029-2032. The tram-trains will be used on the network from 2028.
The Stadler tram-train to be delivered to Regional Stadtbahn Neckar-Alb, (RSBNA)
