At the start of April a tram dedicated to renewable energy entered service on the system in the Swiss city of Zürich after a short ceremony, and will be in traffic for the next 12 months. The Bombardier Flexity was delivered in 2021 and has a special all-over livery.
Sponsored by supplier Energie 360° the tram carries a special livery and special displays through the interior highlighting sustainable energy sources such as heat from air, earth or water, biogas and wood.
City councillor Michael Baumer said. ‘The energy tram shows how we are already using renewable energy today and how we want to encourage that for future generations’.
‘We want to inspire the population for the future of energy and take action’, saids Jörg Wild, CEO of Energie 360°.
Zürich aims to become climate neutral by 2040 with 100% renewable energy. Seven renewable energy networks are planned in the city, including one that will benefit from sustainable heat from Lake Zürich.
