The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) has received two of the new S700 low-floor light rail vehicles which, after completing 1,000 miles of testing, are ready for passenger service. 
 
The 1,000 mile (1,609km) testing process is the final step in ensuring that all safety and quality standards are met before the vehicles can enter active passenger duty later this summer on the Gold and Green Lines. 18 more vehicles are currently in different stages of testing. 
 
The new vehicles are part of SacRT's Light Rail Modernization project that includes the purchase and roll out of new accessible low-floor LRV's , modifications to station platforms and addition of an extra track to allow for better service frequency. 
 
'Ensuring the safety and reliability of our trains is our top priority. These new low-floor vehicles will enhance accessibility and comfort for all our passengers and we are excited to place them in service on the Gold and Green lines later this summer' said SacRt General Manager and CEO, Henry Li. 
 
The first phase of station platform construction is almost complete on the Gold Line and phase two of construction on Blue Line stations will begin in the autumn.
