The Sacramento Regional Transit District (SacRT) celebrated the launch of its new S700 low-floor fleet as the agency works to modernise its transit system to improve passenger experience.

The new light rail vehicles, built by Siemens Mobility, feature a low-floor design that allows easier boarding for seniors, persons with disabilities and those with strollers or bicycles.

The new fleet will offer riders new features including temperature control, digital signage and audio announcements as well as making access easier for passengers with mobility vehicles. With space for 187 people sitting and standing, the new fleet will also boost passenger capacity. The new fleet has begun service on its green and gold lines with plans for the blue line stations to be adapted during 2025.

Siemens Mobility Inc. will begin production on an additional eight low-floor trains later this year which are expected to be delivered in late 2025. To date, SacRT has received funding for a total of 45 new low-floor trains, with a contract to order up to 76 new vehicles.
