The Skoda tram for Bonn. (K. Simana
The 100% low-floor 41T ForCity Smart tram design being delivered by Skoda to the German city of Bonn has received the prestigious Red Dot Award for product design 2024. 
 
28 of the 30.6m eight-axle three-section trams are being delivered to Stadtwerke Bonn to replace the fleet of partly low-floor Duewag trams dating from 1994. The award is based on the decision of the Red Door jury of 39 experts from various design disciplines. 
 
“We are immensely proud that our tram for Bonn has been recognised with the prestigious Red Dot Award,” comments Laurent Fromont, Senior Vice President Rolling Stock & Service Platforms at Škoda Group. “Our people have worked hard to ensure that every detail of the vehicle enhances the travel experience, not only in terms of its engineering but also in the way it fits in with Bonn's unique identity. And to be recognised with this award proves that we have succeeded.” 
 
The design and construction of the tram are made with the safety of passengers, drivers and pedestrians in mind, with a distinctive look blending with the unique face of the historic German city. passengers can enjoy a comfortable ride in a sophisticated space with upholstered wooden seats. Wide entrances with LED lighting and large multi-functional areas make travelling easier for those with special needs. This year over 60 entries from 25 countries were in the running.
