A new station is under construction on the South Yorkshire Supertram tram-train line linking Sheffield and Rotherham and should open in early 2026. The £10M project reached a significant stage in October with the completion of the footbridge and lift shafts by contractor AmcoGiffren. Designed to serve the Magna Science Adventure Centre, reducing congestion and pollution in the Lower Don Valley, Magna will also support the wider regeneration of the area. The joint project by Supertram and Network Rail is led by the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority ands will be the first new station on the tram-train line since it opened in 2018. It will fill the gap between Meadowhall South and Rotherham Central and include 100 P+R places.

South Yorkshire Mayor, Oliver Coppard, said, ‘It is brilliant to see real progress being made at Magna. We are building a better-connected South Yorkshire. This is about more than concrete and steel. It is about making sure our public transport network works for everyone - accessible, joined-up and designed around the needs of our communities. When the new station opens early next year, it will help mored people get to work, get to school and spend time with friends and family. It is another step towards a fairer, greener, more ambitious South Yorkshire. Alongside the tram improvements we are also upgrading walking, wheeling and cycling routes in the area through our Connecting Sheffield: Magna–Tinsley project’.
