Supertram is offering free travel to armed forces personnel and veterans on Remembrance Sunday (9 November) and Armistice day (11 November) across the network as a token of respect and gratitude. They can obtain free travel with a badge, medals, uniform or military ID. Poppies have been added to the front of trams to mark the annual events and tram drivers will pause in a safe way to observe the two-minutes silence at 11.00 on both days.
Oliver Coppard, Mayor of South Yorkshire, said, ‘Remembrance and Armistice Day are moments for us the pause, reflect and offer our gratitude to those who have served and sacrificed protecting our country. We are once again offering free travel to our veterans and serving armed forces personnel on Supertram, alongside some of our bus operators in South Yorkshire FirstBus and Stagecoach), as just one way of saying thank you for their service. That offer is about dignity, respect and making sure that those who have given so much can attend services without any barrier or additional costs’
