When the Leipzig manufacturer Heterblick went into administration last year, the Sachsentram project involving Leipzig, Görlitz and Zwickau was put in jeopardy. Although Leipzig decided to keep faith in Heiterblick (subsequently rescued by PESA), the two smaller east German cities entered on a new procurement process for low-floor trams.
On 15 April it was announced that Görlitz and Zwickau had placed a joint order with Stadler for 14 three-section 30m Tina 100% low-floor, air-conditioned trams, eight for Görlitz and six for Zwickau, with delivery scheduled for 2028. They will be built in the company’s Polish factory. The value of the contract has not been revealed but it is understood each tram will cost between EUR 4 and EUR 5M. It is hoped the joint order will bring economies in maintenance and spare parts. Both cities will use the new trams to replace Tatra KT4D high-floor trams.
