Siemens Mobility, in collaboration with its metro consortium partner in Parklife Metro, has unveiled a full-scale mock-up of one car of the train ordered for the 23km metro from St Mary’s to the new Western Sydney Airport and Bradfield city centre via Luddenham. The 15-year turnkey contract includes 12 automated metro trains for delivery before passenger service starts in 2026. The mock-up will enable all parties involved to evaluate and finalise the design of the train, including lighting and passenger information displays, layout, materials and ergonomics.

Léon Soulier, CEO Turnkey Business Unit at Siemens Mobility, said ‘We are excited about our turnkey project in Sydney. The high-fidelity train mock-up for the Sydney Metro - Western Sydney Airport project has arrived in Australia, marking another milestone for us. This new line will support 14 000 jobs during construction, fuelling growth for both New South Wales and the national economy’.

Major contracts for the project were awarded in 2021-22. In December 2022 the largest PPP construct in New South Wales was awarded to Parklife Metro to deliver six new stations, metro trains and a depot, and to operate and maintain the line for 15 years after it comes operational. Parklike Metro is a consortium of Siemens Mobility, Plenary, WeBuild and RATP Dev.
