The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) is reopening the Takoma Metrorail Station on June 28, two days ahead of schedule.
Crews re-built a faulty interlocking which will provide a smoother ride for customers as well as solving historic drainage issues at the site between the Fort Totten and Takoma stations.
The Takoma station has been upgraded with brighter lighting at the platform edges, new communication cabling and the removal of overgrown vegetation along the tracksides.
As well as this, new digital signage has been installed to provide real-time train arrival and other key travelling information.
The Red Line remains under construction until the end of August and buses are currently replacing the disrupted service. Works at the Fort Totten station are underway inclusing a set of brand new escalators to the Red Line platform.
