The appearance of West Midlands tram 52 in an all-over livery on 24 July marked the renewal of the partnership between Birmingham's tram operator and the city's orchestra, the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, for a third year. In contrast to the yellow-based livery used on tram 45 two years ago, 52 has a black base with large CBSO lettering and photos of the players. The new partnership offers even greater savings on tram travel to concerts, up from 10% to 15%.
Michael Reading-Skilton, Metro's Head of Commercial, explains: 'We're thrilled to be able to continue our relationship with an orchestra that brings so much joy to so many people.
The relationship is certainly set to hit another high note with more savings to be made for anyone with a ticket for performances by the main orchestra or its associated choirs and youth ensembles.
The Metro serves numerous venues across the city, including the impressive Symphony Hall, which is just a minute's walk from Library tram stop, and by taking the tram into the city, musicians and concert ticket holders can take advantage of our free park and ride facilities to avoid the hassle and cost of finding an expensive parking space'.
Emma Stenning, Chief Executive of the CBSO, said: 'We're very excited to be extending our partnership with West Midlands Metro for a third consecutive year. It's thrilling to have such a vibrant and distinctive tram that captures the energy of live music. More importantly, it supports our efforts to inspire audiences to choose more sustainable ways of travelling to and within the city'.
