The first 38T tram on the test track at Plzen
In 2018 RNV, Mannheim, Germany, signed a EUR 250M contract with Skoda Group to deliver 80 trams for use in the Rhein-Neckar conurbation formed by Mannheim, Ludwigshafen and Heidelberg.

Part of the order was for 12 ForCity Smart 38T trams (locally classed RNT2020) measuring 58.7m in length and carrying 366 passengers (144 seated),

The first of these six-section trams (1501) is now ready for delivery from the Plzen factory to Germany and will become the longest tram in the world (previously the 55.9m CAF design for Budapest held this record). They will replace the coupled sets of Duewag trams dating from 1994/95 used on line 5 (for former OEG interurban).

RNV operates a 137.2km network of metre-gauge tramways served by 14 lines and about 300 trams. The network can trace its origins back to 1878 (horse trams).
