After consulting 16 300 customers, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has selected the exterior livery to be applied to its Type 10 LRVs; 102 of these so-called Supercars, a 37.4m (113’) seven-section 100% low-floor tram, that were ordered from CAF in on 31 August 2022 in a USD 811M contract, with delivery of four pilot cars due to start in spring 2026.

MBTA riders were invited to select one of three designs, and 9 566 votes were received for the version now chosen, featuring dark grey and green.

MBTA General manager Phillip Eng said, ‘The fact that we heard directly from thousands of riders demonstrates the importance of these new Green Line cars to the public. Ensuring we engage with riders and incorporate their feedback is critical to everything we do’. The Type 10 LRVs will replace the Type 7 and 8 cars that went into service from 1986 to 2007.

They will be assembled at CAF’s Elmira factory on New York State and CAF has already delivered 24 Type 9 cars to MBTA.
