The first of the CAF trains testing on the DLR. (TfL)
Transport for London, operator of the Docklands Light Railway, has taken up the option in its contract with CAF, and ordered 11 more automated five-section light metro sets, bringing the total on order to 54.

The order follows the release of funding from the UK government Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, which is supporting the provision of 10 000 new homes in developments in the former docklands area (Royal Docks and Isle of Dogs) through its Housing Infrastructure Fund.

The first two of the initial order with CAF are in London undergoing testing on the DLR, though not carrying passengers until early 2024; the delivery of all 54 trains should be completed by the end of 2026, increasing DLR capacity by over 60%. Beckton depot is being extended to accommodate the new fleet.
