In 2022, the Moscow Metro signed a contract to supply 30 control units for automated tram switches. All of them have already been installed on tram tracks in different districts of Moscow.

The innovative system will be installed at all the switches that help the tram to turn in the right direction. Thanks to the modernized infrastructure, trams will move faster and journeys will become even safer.

Today, almost all tram switches work in automatic mode, but are switched by the driver from the cabin with the help of a button. In the future, the tram direction will be changed without the driver's involvement. This is an important step in the modernization of the entire tram infrastructure, which became possible with the transfer of the tram network under the management of the Moscow Metro. This technological solution will allow trams to travel faster and make traffic even safer, - said Maksim Liksutov, the Deputy Mayor of Moscow for Transport.

Maksim Liksutov added that Moscow trams themselves will be equipped with a smart control system. The direction of the turn will be displayed on the screen in the driver's cabin, and the switches will act automatically via radio channel and determine the tram route number.

Moscow is a European leader in the pace of tram fleet renewal - over the last 6 years, the city received more than 500 three-section and one-section Russian trams. 95% of cars in the city are modern low-floor models.
